These lyrics are all over the net, are they from the cd book? I've been watchin' the video, and i'm almost positive some of the lyrics should be different(from mouth movement and handmotions...and just listening). Here's what I would guess, for that first paragraph:

| I'm also curious as to what this song means??? With the war going on, it seems as though this could be referencing the idea that we've been "tilting at windmills." From dictionary.com: "This metaphoric expression alludes to the hero of Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote (1605), who rides with his lance at full tilt (poised to strike) against a row of windmills, which he mistakes for evil giants." The windmills would represent the imagined threat, and America charged at them for the land, hence "windmill, windmill for the land." And it is said that this war will be thought of as an Intellectuals' War, in which countries have more books than common sense, "Learn forever hand in hand, take it all in on your stride."-learning and making history as we dive into Iraq. "It is sticking, falling down" could simply be America's reputation. "Is everybody in?"-could just be a rhetorical question... is everyone in the world in on this? In the video the island is being chased by 2 choppers as well... |

Honestly, I must disagree with duffus. Infact, I registerd just to do so. ^_^ I don't think that this is an anti-war song at all. Honestly, I wonder why people assume that everything now relates to the war. This song is a "we must go back" song. 2-D (the singer) is trapped in a tower of a corperation, being commanded by his peers (Murdoc and Russel) and people on television that he must be there, doing what he is doing. But, when he looks out the window, he sees a simpler place. He sees that windmill and he wants a place where people can love. But, he cant escape and the world he lives in pulls him back in. All the while, he tries to convince himself that he feels good about it. If this song has any meaning at all. THAT seems like it to me.

Ive thought about both ideas duffus's and Wyte Nites's And im gonna hafta agree with Wyte's not everything everyon does pertains to the war.. Thats on of the great things about this country now we can go to war without having to gear everything toards the war.. I mean most of us havnt given anything up.. Im not saying that its not important if you have or that your defying your country if you havnt simply that you dont have to.. Theres no draft your not forced to build machines of war or send all your food or whatever to the military.. Most americans have gone on with there lives as normal.. So most likely these guyz just wrote a song... i dont believe its geared toward the war at all.. But as any human i could be wrong =)..

ok not to sound retarded or anything, but i tivo'd the video, so... but i registered just to say big wyte is the closest to right about the meaning of the song. the lyrics are posted above, just read them. its, put in lamence terms, tired of being controlled and wanting to break free, simpler, easier... what life should be like, but are forced to pretend they feel good. INC. is for corporation, struggle, man vs. society, the windmill representing free, floating in the air, breaking away...
the Gorillaz are fresh, the video is super fresh, and the meaning of the song, the whole reason for the song is the best of all. thats what keeps me listening. |
